Dynamical stabilization of runaway potentials and landscape of vacua at finite density

چکیده
We study a SU(2) gauge theory with a classical complex modulus. Introducing a chemical potential for a conserved modulus hypercharge causes it to become unstable and start condensing. We show that the modulus condensation in turn generates homogeneous but anisotropic non-abelian field strength condensates. The existence of a stable vacuum at the end point of the condensation process depends on a modulus representation under the gauge group. For a modulus in the fundamental representation, the global vacuum of the theory is a state both with the rotational symmetry and the electromagnetic U(1)em being spontaneously broken. In other words, the system describes an anisotropic superconducting medium. We further explore the landscape of vacua of this theory and identify metastable vacua with an abnormal number of Nambu-Goldstone bosons. For a modulus in the adjoint representation, we show that the theory does not have stable vacua with homogeneous anisotropic non-abelian field strength condensates, although there are metastable vacua. The reason of that is connected with a larger number of the physical components of the modulus in the case of the adjoint representation as compared to the fundamental one. ∗On leave from Bogolyubov Institute for Theoretical Physics, 03143 Kiev, Ukraine 2

Finite time stabilization of time-delay nonlinear systems with uncertainty and time-varying delay
In this paper, the problem of finite-time stability and finite-time stabilization for a specific class of dynamical systems with nonlinear functions in the presence time-varying delay and norm-bounded uncertainty terms is investigated. Nonlinear functions are considered to satisfy the Lipchitz conditions. At first, sufficient conditions to guarantee the finite-time stability for time-delay nonl...
متن کاملD-brane realizations of runaway behavior and moduli stabilization
In this paper we find examples of moduli stabilization and runaway behavior which can be treated exactly. This is shown for supersymmetric field theories which can be realized on the world volume of D-branes. From a geometric point of view, these field theories lift moduli spaces of vacua by deforming lines of singularities where supersymmetric fractional branes can be located in the geometry w...
متن کاملDynamical Higgs potentials with a landscape
We consider one-loop effective potentials for adjoint Higgs fields that originate from flat holonomies in toroidal compactification of gauge theories. We show that such potentials are " landscape-like " for large gauge groups and generic non-supersymmetric matter representations. In particular, there is a large number of vacua with similar local properties , scanning a broad band of vacuum ener...
متن کاملOff-shell M5 Brane, Perturbed Seiberg-Witten Theory, and Metastable Vacua
We demonstrate that, in an appropriate limit, the off-shell M5-brane worldvolume action effectively captures the scalar potential of Seiberg-Witten theory perturbed by a small super-potential and, consequently, any nonsupersymmetric vacua that it describes. This happens in a similar manner to the emergence from M5's of the scalar potential describing certain type IIB flux configurations [1]. We...
متن کاملA Finite Landscape?
We present evidence that the number of string/M theory vacua consistent with experiments is finite. We do this both by explicit analysis of infinite sequences of vacua and by applying various mathematical finiteness theorems. bacharya at ictp.it, mrd at physics.rutgers.edu
